ASA president discusses sedation for children undergoing dental procedures in The New York Times

In the article titled “Should Kids Be Sedated for Dental Work,” ASA President Jeffrey Plagenhoef, M.D., recommended a qualified individual, other than the dentist, monitor the patient because it reduces the risk of adverse events.  Additionally, ASA recommended that both deep sedation or general anesthesia using IV should be administered only by qualified anesthesia providers. ASA member Joseph Cravero, M.D., was also quoted in the article.
