SAN DIEGO – Oct. 23, 2015 – As quality measurement become increasingly important in the health care environment, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) announced today an agreement with ArborMetrix to provide technical operations, including data intake and hosting for AQI’s National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry (NACOR) to ensure the registry can accommodate anticipated future demand.
“Since its inception in 2009, AQI has created nine registries and obtained the distinction of having the largest anesthesia registry in the country, NACOR,” said ASA President J. P. Abenstein, M.S.S.E., M.D. “AQI’s entrepreneurial spirit during this startup phase allowed it to achieve great successes in a short amount of time. Now we need to move NACOR to its next phase, ensuring that the operating model is scalable for significant growth.”
AQI’s NACOR is the largest anesthesia registry in the country with more than 31 million cases. The aim of the registry is to be the primary source of information for quality improvement in the clinical practice of anesthesia. AQI’s registries provide case data that can be used by physician anesthesiologists to assess and improve patient care.
"AQI was established to be the primary source of information for hospitals and practices to answer important questions about the care they deliver,” said Roger Moore, M.D., chair, AQI Board of Directors. “Moving NACOR to its next technological phase will enable physician anesthesiologists to continue to improve the quality care of patients, lower anesthesia mortality and lower anesthesia incidents."
“The NACOR registry is one of the largest and most important sources of clinical quality content in the country and affects all aspects of surgical care,” said Brett Furst, CEO of ArborMetrix. “We are delighted to be selected to strategically partner with ASA and AQI to evolve NACOR to the next level of performance measurement and quality improvement.”
As one of the leading vendors in clinical registry solutions, NACOR’s transition to ArborMetrix will begin in November, 2015 and is expected to be operational on the new platform by June, 2016. ArborMetrix will provide robust and improved reporting and analytics with more self-service reporting capabilities for practices, as well as customizable dashboards for visualizing data for local needs. Other enhancements of the new platform will be the use of the latest technology advances, increased data validation and quality checks, as well more opportunity for collaboration with other registries.
AQI will continue to manage the NACOR registry operations, manage the Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) service and support ASA members conducting clinical research.
