Medtronic Supporting the Work of ASA, Physician Anesthesiologists to Improve Perioperative Brain Health and Patient Safety
CHICAGO and DUBLIN – The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) today announced Medtronic plc (NYSE:MDT), a global leader in medical technology, as an ASA Industry Supporter for the seventh year, supporting the work of the Society and physician anesthesiologists to improve patient safety and brain health during and following surgical procedures.
“We are excited to welcome Medtronic again as an ASA Industry Supporter,” said ASA President Beverly K. Philip, M.D., FACA, FASA. “We will work together with them to provide quality education and resources to help improve patient safety and quality of care through ASA’s Perioperative Brain Health Initiative, Perioperative Surgical Home model and other priorities.”
As an Industry Supporter, Medtronic is helping to establish a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with the anesthesiology community and strengthen collaboration between physician anesthesiologists and industry. Medtronic will also add to the value the Society provides to patients and the public, while providing invaluable year-round support of ASA programs and priorities, including initiatives related to perioperative brain health for older adults and continuing medical education (CME) grant support.
“Medtronic is proud to once again support ASA. As the global leader in medical technology, we understand both patient and caregiver needs. Through this partnership, ASA is delivering to its members valuable education, trainings, and resources that help improve perioperative patient care as well as support physicians,” said Frank Chan, president of the Patient Monitoring business, which is part of the Medical Surgical Portfolio at Medtronic. “We look forward to continued collaboration with ASA on impactful programs that benefit both patients and health care professionals.”
Through the program, Medtronic is supporting ASA’s major events, including the ANESTHESIOLOGY® annual meeting and Practice Management™ conference, with valuable educational resources to help improve patient safety. Over the past year, Medtronic instituted a bi-annual leadership meeting that brings together Medtronic business and ASA physician leaders who share their views on medical technologies and delivery of care. Medtronic also supported leadership education for physicians through a master class on resilience and teamwork, and contributed to programs that help ASA members foster diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in their practices. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Medtronic supported grants for wellness education and training for clinicians.
Launched in 2010, ASA’s Industry Supporter Program is limited to 10 organizations. Participation is intended for companies who want to stand apart by showcasing high-level commitment to the education of physician anesthesiologists, the anesthesia care team and advancement of the specialty.
