After passing a full repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) on Wednesday, January 19, the U.S. House passed H.R. 9, which instructs four House committees to work on alternatives to PPACA. The vote passed 253-175. The alternatives to PPACA would need to meet a series of objectives such as lowering costs, coverage for people with preexisting conditions, and preserving doctor choice.
The House Republicans also permitted one amendment to the bill, which passed 428-1. This amendment instructs the appropriate committee to include a permanent fix to the Medicare physician payment formula.
