The House of Representatives has passed H.R. 2, “Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act.” The vote was 245-189. While the vote was largely along party lines, three Democrats voted to repeal the law. The legislation would repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and does not replace PPACA with any other health care reforms.
The legislation now heads to the Democrat-controlled Senate where passage of the legislation is unlikely. In fact, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has indicated the bill will not be brought up for consideration in the Senate. Moreover, President Obama has already pledged to veto this legislation if it reaches his desk.
ASA vigorously opposed the passage of the PPACA and will continue to work in this Congress on much needed changes to the law.
