As part of the Committee on Governmental Affairs Advocacy Education Series, a State Issues Tele-Townhall was held on January 13. Dr. Randall Clark, ASA director from Colorado, provided an update on the Colorado opt-out and what lessons were learned; Dr. Frank Cassady, ASA alternate director and president of the Iowa Society of Anesthesiologists discussed ISA’s efforts to protect patient safety by prohibiting non-physicians from performing interventional pain management procedures; and Dr. Sam Page, an ASA member from Missouri and former state legislator discussed his experience in enacting getting anesthesiologist assistant licensure legislation passed in Missouri and what other states can learn from their experience. Also on the call was Mike Nichols, president-elect of the a representative from American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants, to provide additional information pertaining to AA licensure. A question and answer session followed the presentation.
