The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control is sponsoring a webinar on "Challenges in the Management of Opioid-Using Patients in Emergency Departments." This free webinar will occur on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
The CDC provided a brief overview of this webinar: "Emergency department physicians are well aware of the problem of abuse of opioid analgesics in the United States. They struggle on a daily basis to adequately treat patients with pain without enabling drug abuse or diversion. This webinar will present guidelines on some critical questions related to the prescribing of opioids in EDs from the American College of Emergency Physicians, explain the Joint Commission's standards on pain management with particular attention to the issue of opioids, and provide practical advice on what one health system is doing to provide consistent, compassionate care for patients with drug-seeking behavior after they leave the emergency department."
