ASA issued an official response to a CMS request for information to inform the development of a standardized Hospital Outpatient Surgical Department/Ambulatory Surgical Center (HOSD/ASC) Experience of Care Survey. ASA emphasized that in order to achieve the National Quality Strategy, any HOSD/ASC survey should include questions related to anesthetic care.
The specific recommendations focus on four data collection categories including general procedure information, patient demographic information, short form version of anesthesia satisfaction survey, and long form version of anesthesia survey. Further, ASA recommended that practices report this data to the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI).
ASA welcomes the opportunity to partner with CMS on the development of such an instrument to assess ambulatory surgical patient experience.
