CMS Discusses PQRS and the Value based Payment Modifier

In order to avoid a negative Value-Based Payment Modifier (VBPM) adjustment in 2015 (with performance period of 2013), anesthesia groups of 100 or more eligible professionals (EP) must sign up for or "self-nominate" for the 2013 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) program through the Group Payment Reporting Option (GPRO). (NOTE: If groups of 100 or more EPs don’t register and report, they face a -1.0 percent Value-Based Payment Modifier penalty in 2015 in addition to any PQRS penalty.)  On June 5, 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted a National Provider Call on "Getting Started with PQRS Reporting: Implications for the Value-Based Payment Modifier" to help you understand what you will need to do."
