Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality Approved as a National Accrediting Organization for Hospitals

On July 26, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the approval of the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) as a national accrediting organization for hospitals that wish to participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs.  All hospitals participating in the Medicare or Medicaid programs must be accredited by one of the CMS-designated accreditation organizations or submit to a survey by CMS’ State Survey Agency to assess compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation.
