PQRS Measure #44 – Anesthesiology CPT® Codes Added for 2014

ASA is pleased to announce that beginning in 2014, anesthesiologists will be able to report on Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) Measure #44: Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG): Preoperative Beta-Blocker in Patients with Isolated CABG Surgery. According to the Individual Measure Specification Manual released last December, anesthesiologists may now report CPT® Codes 00566 and 00567 for CABG as well as CPT Code 00562.

The addition of anesthesiology CPT codes reflects the efforts of the Committee on Performance and Outcome Measurements, ASA staff and the collaboration between ASA, CMS and Quality Insights of Pennsylvania (QIP), the measure steward. Collaboration between specialty societies and measure stewards can potentially improve patient care while recognizing each provider for the services performed.  ASA thanks CMS and QIP for their inclusion of anesthesiology CPT codes into PQRS Measure #44.
