On June 13, 2014 Governor Terry McAuliffe (D-VA) appointed Maxine Lee, M.D. to the Virginia Board of Medicine. A longtime member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), Dr. Lee is both President-Elect and Alternate Director of the Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists (VSA) as well as President-Elect of the Roanoke Valley Academy of Medicine. Dr. Lee is a partner with Anesthesiology Consultants of Virginia and is a staff anesthesiologist and Past Vice President for Medical Affairs at Carilion Medical Center in Roanoke. Presently, one other physician anesthesiologist, ASA member Lori Conklin, M.D., serves on the Virginia Board of Medicine.
Given the range of anesthesia and sedation issues under consideration by state administrative agencies, physician anesthesiologists are strongly encouraged to similarly seek out opportunities to protect and promote patient safety by serving on state boards of medicine, osteopathy, nursing, health and/or insurance.
