ASA Puts Forth Solutions to Draft Novitas MAC Policy

Novitas has recently released a draft proposed Local Coverage Determination (DL32628) addressing medically necessity requirements for anesthesia care.  In the letter, ASA responds the proposal by outlining concerns associated with the draft policy, including potential adverse impact on patient safety and interference in the physician-patient relationship.  ASA urges the insurer to work to ensure that clinical judgment drives patient care.  Read the full letter here.
