This week, the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists (FSA) successfully blocked language that would have inappropriately expanded the scope of practice for nurse anesthetists. This language, which was first proposed in April, would have negatively impacted anesthesia services in the state and contradicted Florida’s supervision regulations. After strong opposition by the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, including a challenge to the rule filed on Tuesday, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration is now expected to file a new rule that will not include the original language on nurse anesthetists. Congratulations to the FSA for successfully advocating on behalf of patient safety and the specialty in your state!
