Padma Gulur, M.D., a member of ASA’s Committee on Pain Medicine, was recently appointed to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee. The Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee will provide advice on scientific, technical and medical issues concerning drug compounding under sections 503A and 503B of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The establishment of this committee is an important step toward implementing the compounding provisions of the Drug Quality and Security Act, which was enacted following the tragic fungal meningitis outbreak in 2012.
Dr. Gulur is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care at the University of California, Irvine. In her previous role at Massachusetts General Hospital, she was the Director of the Pediatric and Palliative Care Service, Director of Inpatient Pain Services, the Fellowship Director of Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia, and the Director of the Center for Pain Medicine. While ASA nominated Dr. Gulur to the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee, she will serve on the committee in an individual capacity.
ASA congratulates Dr. Gulur on her appointment.
