ASA staff contacted the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) with concerns about the calculation of the 2016 Medicare Anesthesia Conversion Factor as it appeared in the Final Rule for the CY2016 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule which was released on October 30. The 0.5% update factor established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) was not included in the initial calculation. CMS has addressed this concern and the CY2016 Anesthesia Conversion Factor will be $22.4426 rather than $22.3309 as previously published. The corrected calculation is available online.
