On January 12, President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address to Congress and referenced several of ASA’s key priorities.
As ASA continues to advocate for physician-led anesthesia care within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), we applaud the President for his commitment to improving access to health care for our nation’s Veterans and ensuring they receive the best possible care. That’s why ASA continues to oppose efforts from VA that threaten the health and safety of Veterans by removing physician anesthesiologists from care teams within VA.
President Obama also opened his remarks with a reference to the growing opioid epidemic across the country. ASA applauds his commitment to combating this public health issue, as ASA continues to focus on patient safety and lead in ongoing work to promote the safe use of prescription opioids.
