The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will hold a Listening Session on issues related to removal of Social Security Number from Medicare claims and Medicare identification cards - please find information from CMS below:
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) invites you to join us in an important Provider Listening Session to discuss CMS’ Social Security Number Removal Initiative (SSNRI) and its impact on providers, their patients, and their business and billing practices. This initiative is a result of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 which mandates the removal of the Social Security Number (SSN)-based Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN) from Medicare cards, to address the current risk of beneficiary medical identity theft.
We invite you to join this listening session and provide your feedback. Please also share this information with and invite your clinician members as well as healthcare executives, administrators, admission/intake personnel, and billing managers from across the country to participate in the listening session, to be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
Please register, and have your membership and representatives register, here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cms-ssnri-provider-listening-session-registration-26685855111
Note: You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser if it does not take you to the registration site.
The listening session will include a presentation on the SSNRI by CMS staff and a Q&A period for participants joining the call. Once we have received your registration, we will send you a copy of the CMS presentation for your review prior to the listening session.
In addition to participating in the listening session, feel free to send in written comments no later than August 3, 2016 to: SSNRIExternal@cms.hhs.gov
