On Tuesday, November 29, President-elect Donald Trump announced nominations for two key health care administration positions. To head the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the President-elect has selected Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA). Additionally, the President-elect nominated Seema Verma to serve as Director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Since his election in 2004, ASA has enjoyed a strong working relationship with Congressman Price. A member of the House GOP Doctors Caucus, Congressman Price is an orthopedic surgeon, whose wife, Betty, is a physician anesthesiologist.
Additionally, the President-elect announced that he would nominate Seema Verma to be the administrator of CMS. Verma is President, CEO and founder of SVC, Inc., a national health policy consulting company.
ASA congratulates these new nominees on their appointments and looks forward to working with them in their new roles at HHS and CMS on issues related to patient safety and Medicare physician payments.
