On Thursday, February 9, the U.S. Senate voted 52-47 to confirm Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA), as the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Dr. Price was sworn in to the office on Friday, February 10.
It is expected that Dr. Price and HHS will be leading implementation of the new Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) program and involved in the debate about the Affordable Care Act.

ASA congratulates Dr. Price on his confirmation and looks forward to working with him in his new role at HHS on issues related to patient safety and Medicare physician payments. A member of the House GOP Doctors Caucus, Dr. Price is an orthopedic surgeon, whose wife, Betty, is a non-practicing physician anesthesiologist.
