On Monday, March 13, the Senate voted to confirm Seema Verma as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Verma, who previously served as an Indiana health care consultant, was approved by a vote of 55-43.
At CMS, Verma will manage the agency that oversees health insurance programs for more than 130 million people within the Department of Health and Human Services.
Seema Verma was the President and founder of SVC, Inc., a national health policy consulting company. She was also an architect of Indiana's Medicaid program, and worked closely with Vice President Mike Pence when he was the state's governor on the program.
