CMS Issues Proposed Rule for MACRA's Second Year
Yesterday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its proposed rule for procedures and policies for the 2018 performance period/2020 payment year that will result from participation in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and the Alternative Payment Models (APMs) established within the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). The proposed rule also covers some elements of MACRA not slated to take effect until after the second year of MACRA’s Quality Payment Program.
ASA would like to emphasize that this proposed rule will not impact the policies and processes already finalized for the 2017 performance period/2019 payment adjustment.
ASA will post additional information and details as staff and physicians continue to analyze the 1,058 page rule. ASA will submit comments to CMS to respond to the many important proposals and questions in the rule.
The rule is available to read here.
