President Trump Announces Intent to Nominate Acting VA Secretary for Permanent Position
On Friday, May 18, President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Acting Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Robert Wilkie to be the next Secretary of the department.
This nomination is three weeks after the previous nominee for VA Secretary, Admiral Ronny L. Jackson, M.D., withdrew from consideration. Acting Secretary Wilkie has been in the role since late March, replacing Secretary David Shulkin, M.D.
Acting Secretary Wlkie is a former aide to Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and a Pentagon official. He will need to be confirmed by the Senate to become the VA Secretary.
ASA will continue to monitor for additional developments and is committed to working with the upcoming VA Secretary to ensure safe, high-quality health care for our nation’s Veterans.
