VA Issues Final Anesthesia Services Directive
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has
issued a new “National Anesthesia Service” directive, following a proposed draft that was released in June 2018. The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA)
submitted formal comments and suggested amendments to the proposal last year and is continuing to review the recently released directive.
Over the last several years, ASA has worked respectfully and constructively to build an unprecedented level of support from VA leadership, Veterans’ organizations, bipartisan lawmakers and other Veteran health stakeholders to preserve high quality anesthesia care in VA. ASA is committed to ensuring that any future policy aligns with this patient safety focus.
