ASA Member Appointed to Michigan Board of Medicine
On Dec. 18, Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) appointed Michael Lewis, M.D., FASA to the Michigan Board of Medicine. Dr. Lewis will serve a four year term that will expire at the end of 2023.
A long-time member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), Dr. Lewis has held several leadership positions. He has served as Section Chief for Sub-specialties, and currently serves on the Board of Directors, as the Director for Academic Medicine. Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Educational Track Subcommittee on Geriatric Anesthesia and is a member of numerous ASA committees. Dr. Lewis previously served as Secretary of the ASAPAC Executive Board.
Dr. Lewis has been a component society leader. He has served as the President of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, and presently as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists. He also serves as the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine at Henry Ford Health System.
The Michigan Board of Medicine is comprised of 19 voting members.
Physician anesthesiologists are strongly encouraged to seek out appointments for various regulatory agencies to protect and promote patient safety. Given the range of issues considered by state boards of medicine, osteopathy, nursing, health and/or insurance, physician anesthesiologists are extremely valuable as questions concerning patient centered, physician-led care arise.
ASA congratulates and thanks Dr. Lewis for his service and dedication to patient safety in Michigan!
