ASA Reviewing New Veterans Affairs (VA) Rule

ASA has become aware that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will issue an Interim Final Rule on Thursday, November 12 entitled “Authority of VA Professionals to Practice Health Care.”   ASA is currently conducting an analysis of the rule to determine how its provisions interact with VA’s existing physician-led team-based anesthesia care policies from the 2016 Advance Practice Nurses final rule (38 CFR § 17.415), and Directive 1123, which provides for physician-led anesthesia care for Veterans. ASA will provide additional information once the review is complete.
