The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the availability of the proposed clinical practice guideline, titled CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids—United States, 2022 that updates and expands the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain—United States, 2016. The updated guideline will provide evidence-based recommendations for clinicians who provide pain care to patients with subacute, acute, or chronic pain. The announcement includes an open 60-day comment period.
ASA is reviewing the revised guidelines and will submit formal comments to the CDC.
