DEA Announces New Training Requirement
ASA has been notified that its members have been receiving letters from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) notifying them of a new training requirement. This requirement was included in legislation passed late last year which repealed the X-waiver, a requirement related to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). The law now requires all DEA-registered practitioners, including anesthesiologists, to complete a one-time training requirement. All DEA-registered practitioners, except for practitioners that are solely Veterinarians, are required to satisfy this new, one-time, 8-hour training requirement. The DEA has noted physicians will be able to simply check a box on their DEA registration application or renewal form indicating that they have satisfied this training requirement, effective June 27, 2023. The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is thoroughly reviewing and monitoring this requirement. Read the full
