New Jersey Anesthesiologist Elected to State Assembly

ASA congratulates John Azzariti, M.D. on his election to the New Jersey State Assembly.  

On November 7, New Jersey voters elected Dr. Azzariti to represent the state’s 39th Assembly District. Dr. Azzariti serves as the Associate Director for the Department of Anesthesiology at The Valley Hospital. He is a long-time member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and a past president of the New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists where he continues to serve on their Executive Committee. Dr. Azzariti is also the ASA Alternate Director for New Jersey.

New Jersey now joins seven other states where physician anesthesiologists are legislative members. 

Physician anesthesiologists are strongly encouraged to seek election to their state legislatures and appointments for various regulatory agencies to protect and promote patient safety. Given the range of issues considered by state legislatures and regulatory boards, physician anesthesiologists are extremely valuable as questions concerning patient centered, physician-led care arise along with any number of other related patient safety matters.
