ASA Leaders Spend Day on Capitol Hill
On Monday, March 18, members of ASA leadership spent the day meeting with senior Congressional staff and lawmakers to discuss health policy items and ASA priorities for the year ahead.
This annual event, called the “ASA Day in Washington,” was attended by ASA President Ronald L. Harter, MD, FASA, Immediate Past President Michael W. Champeau, MD, FASA, President-Elect Donald E. Arnold, MD, FASA, First Vice President Patrick Giam, MD, FASA, Vice President for Professional Affairs Lois A. Connolly, MD, FACHE, FASA, ASA CEO Brian Reilly, as well as members of the ASA advocacy division staff.
Throughout the day of meetings, members of the ASA Executive Committee met with senior Congressional policymakers, including Committee staff, to build bipartisan support for key ASA initiatives including preserving the role of anesthesiologists in the care of Veterans, addressing the United/Optum/Change billing catastrophe, reforming the No Surprises Act implementation and engaging Congress to address physician well-being.
ASA thanks Congressional staff for their participation in this event and looks forward to continuing to work alongside lawmakers on the many pressing issues affecting patient safety and the specialty.
