Washington State Approves Spinal Cord Stimulation for Certain Pain Conditions
Last week, the Washington State Health Technology Clinical Committee voted to approve spinal cord stimulation (SCS) for patients with conditions such as failed back surgery, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and nonsurgical back pain. The determinations of the committee are followed by state purchased health care programs including Medicaid, Uniform Medical Plan and the Department of Labor and Industries in Washington State.
In collaboration with other medical specialty societies, ASA formally engaged the Washington State Health Care Authority to express support for coverage of SCS and ensure its accessibility to patients with refractory pain conditions.
ASA is pleased with the decision and remains committed to ensuring that appropriate, effective, and responsible pain treatments are preserved.
