Effective 10/1/2012, claims to Medicare for esophageal Doppler monitoring should be reported with HCPCS code G9157 – Transesophageal Doppler used for cardiac monitoring. Code 76999 - Unlisted ultrasound procedure (e.g., diagnostic, interventional) should not be used to report this service on/after 10/1/2012. CMS has recently provided new information about the status of Code G9157 in an notice about updates to the 2013 Physician Fee Schedule.
