The American Society of Anesthesiologist designates this enduring material activity for 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by Montana Nurses Association, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Criteria for successful completion of this program includes receiving an 85% or greater passing score and completing the program evaluation.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify a high-risk patient

  • Differentiate deep sedation from moderate sedation

  • Assessing the patient for responsiveness, airway adequacy, ventilation, oxygenation, and circulation

  • Monitor effectively (including capnography)

  • Rescue a patient from deeper-than-intended sedation

  • Titrate sedatives and analgesics based on pharmacologic characteristics

This activity is intended for all non-anesthesiologist physicians, nurses, dentists, and care team members involved in delivering moderate (conscious) sedation to patients.
