September 6, 2017 – Rosemont, IL - A research grant of $135,000 has been awarded to Alexander McLawhorn, M.D., and Meghan Kirksey, M.D., Ph.D., both of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The co-investigators received the
OREF Perioperative Surgical and Medical Home Patient Safety Research Grant, which provides funding for clinical research to advance breakthroughs in orthopaedic patient safety. The study,
Effect of Operative Team Consistency on Patient Safety and Efficiency, will examine the impact of consistent surgical team staffing on patient outcomes following total joint arthroplasty.
Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) President David G. Funding for the grant was provided by OREF, ASA, FAER, the APSF, AAOS, the Cigna Foundation and individual donors.
